Catnip Toys and Treats for Cats

Catnip 101

Both Catnip (Nepeta Cataria) and Catmint (Nepeta Racemosa) are used in Wiggles and Whiskers Catnip toys, as they both contain the ‘magical’ oil (nepetalactone) that cats love. When cats smell this oil, they feel euphoric and happy and they exhibit behaviour such as chin and cheek rubbing, kicking, rolling around, and sometimes evening leaping in the air! The effects of the oil can last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. It is a wonderful way to provoke exercise and purposeful play for cats.  Once your cat’s play session is over, be sure to store your catnip toy in a dry, dark place to prolong its life. Its not uncommon for a cat to lick a catnip toy until it is very soggy. Don’t worry, after it has dried out, it will be ready again for another session of playtime!
